Many health insurance plans cover some if not all of the costs associated with treatment. Coverage typically includes outpatient services and therapy sessions.
The amount you’ll pay out of pocket can be dependent upon:
- Your specific insurance plan’s benefits
- Co-pays
- Deductibles
- The duration of your treatment episode
- Whether the provider is in-network or out-of-networkIt is recommended checking with your insurance provider for detailed information about your coverage, including co-pays, deductibles, and any pre-authorization requirements.

Deductibles can vary widely depending on the type of insurance policy and the coverage selected. For example, a health insurance policy might have a deductible of $1,000, $2,000, or $6,000.
An insurance deductible is the amount of money that a health insurance policyholder must pay out-of-pocket before their insurance coverage kicks in to cover a claim.
-
Out-of-pocket expenses in health insurance refers to the costs that a policyholder must pay for healthcare services that are not covered by their insurance plan. These expenses can include:
1. Deductibles: The amount you must pay before your insurance starts to cover costs.2. Co-payments (co-pays): Fixed amounts you pay for specific services.
3. Co-insurance: The percentage of costs you are responsible for after meeting your deductible. For example, if your insurance covers 80% of a bill, you would pay the remaining 20%.
4. Exclusions: Services or treatments that are not covered by your policy.
5. Non-network providers: If you use healthcare providers outside of your insurance network, you may face higher out-of-pocket costs.
Out-of-pocket maximums are also important; this is the maximum amount you would pay in a year for covered services. Once you reach this limit, your insurance covers 100% of your eligible expenses for the rest of the year.
-
A health insurance co-pay, or co-payment, is a fixed amount that a policyholder pays for a specific healthcare service.
For example, if your insurance plan has a $20 co-pay for your primary care visits, you would pay $20 directly to the healthcare provider when you go for an appointment, while your insurance covers the remaining costs. Co-pays can vary depending on the type of service and the terms of your insurance plan.
-
“In-network” refers to healthcare providers and facilities that have contracted with a health insurance plan to provide services. When you use in-network providers, you typically pay lower out-of-pocket costs compared to out-of-network providers.
-
Single County Authority (SCA) are local treatment programs which are administered through County Drug and Alcohol Offices, also called Single County Authorities (SCA). The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Program provides state and federal funding to the SCAs through grant agreements in order for uninsured individuals to access the treatment they are in need of. At MARS, we work with both Lehigh and Northampton County SCA to provide their respective residents the treatment they need when they are uninsured. In order to receive SCA funding, certain documentation must be provided as well as certain criteria must be met. MARS will assist you in gathering the required documentation to apply for SCA funding and explain in detail what the qualifying factors for SCA funding approval are.
